About

Early on in my career, shortly after finishing graduate school, an interviewer asked me the following question: “why would someone with an MBA want to work for a nonprofit organization?”

My response: because a nonprofit is also a business. At the time, I knew that I wanted my work to matter, I wanted to make a difference in something that meant more than a company’s bottom line. What I didn’t realize then was how that simple response would be the early draft of my personal mission statement.

Violet Hour Stories & Chocolate is a passion project driven by years working in health and human services sector, obtaining a doctorate degree, and then an encore career as a small business consultant with the Small Business Development Center. Add in a healthy love of chocolate, travel and a dream of being a writer since childhood, I hope that Violet Hour Stories & Chocolate will inspire their others to pursue their passion projects, and use their unique talents to be a force for good in their local communities. And in the meantime, enjoy a much deserved indulegent escape into chocolate, travel, and storytelling.

I was so inspired by the promise of social entrepreneurship, that I enrolled in doctoral degree program at Pace University in New York City and spent seven years of my life working full time, while attending school to wholly investigate the phenomenon of social entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship is very much glamorized in our popular culture, but in reality, it is incredibly difficult. Social entrepreneurship adds another layer of complexity because sometimes what is right for the mission is wrong for the business. Social entrepreneurs are both dreamers and doers, they have the passion to tackle a problem. However, they need help in the form of knowledge, tools, and mentorship to be successful!

At Violet Hour Stories & Chocolate, my mission is to educate, inspire, and help other social entrepreneurs create impactful businesses, so that together, we can be a catalyst for positive social change.
